Real Madrid’s recent 2-1 win over Deportivo Alaves will serve as a temporary relief for Xabi Alonso, who must steer his team to the best possible finish to the year.
With two matches remaining, Alonso will be keen on building a winning momentum heading into January’s Spanish Super Cup, where he will be expected to guide Real Madrid to a trophy.
Therefore, it is safe to say that Alonso’s future at Real Madrid is far from secure. But as the Spaniard navigates through this challenging period, he has received support from an ex-teammate.
Nacho asks Real Madrid to be patient
In a recent interaction, former Real Madrid defender and club captain Nacho Fernandez has urged everyone to be patient as Real Madrid look to move on from the mini-crisis.
“They need patience and calm,” Nacho said (h/t Defensa Central). “I think they have a very good squad and a coach perfectly suited to Real Madrid’s style“

The veteran defender, who left Real Madrid to join Al Qadsiah in 2024, added that everything will be fine at Real Madrid as long as they can maintain composure.
“If they maintain that composure, everything will be fine,” he said.
With over 350 competitive appearances for Real Madrid, Nacho is well aware of Real Madrid’s ups and downs as a player. He also knows Xabi Alonso quite well, having played together at the Bernabeu for many years.
Nacho has full faith in Xabi Alonso and his ability to guide Real Madrid back to winning ways and wants the club to give the manager a little more time.
Nacho’s comments come against the backdrop of Dani Carvajal raising his voice in the Real Madrid dressing room ahead of the Alaves clash, urging everyone to back the coach.
This is a good sign for Alonso, who appears to have finally managed to gain the trust of the players. Whether or not it is too little too late remains to be seen.
