Scottie Scheffler is the PGA Tour player of the year for 2025
It turns out that 2025 was the year of Scottie Scheffler. Again.
The PGA Tour announced on Monday that Scheffler was the winner of the Jack Nicklaus Award as the PGA Tour Player of the Year for 2025. He had 6 total victories in 2025, 2 of them major titles in the PGA Championship and Open Championship. Simply put, he was spectacular.
Scheffler officially joins Tiger Woods as the only other player to win this award for our more consecutive times (1999-2003). It is always difficult to wonder how he can continue to outdo himself, yet here we are.
Also of note, the PGA Tour announced that Aldrich Potgieter has been named the Arnold Palmer Award winner as the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year for the season. The 21-year old won the Rocket Classic this past season, one of 5 rookies to win on the year, and appears to have quite the future ahead of him. He was notably the only rookie who qualified for the FedExCup Playoffs.
Potgieter is also in some elite company as he is now the third player from South Africa to win this award. He joins Ernie Els and Trevor Immelman in that regard which would suggest that the future is indeed bright.
“On behalf of the PGA TOUR, congratulations to Scottie Scheffler on being named PGA TOUR Player of the Year and Aldrich Potgieter on earning PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year honors for 2025,” said PGA TOUR CEO Brian Rolapp. “Scottie’s consistent level of success has been nothing short of spectacular as he continues to chase history on the PGA TOUR, and we’re excited to see what he will deliver in 2026.”

This past season was an incredible one for the PGA Tour at large. While Scheffler and Potgieter took home these honors it was also a year that featured Rory McIlroy winning the Masters and completing the Career Grand Slam in the process. McIlroy also had a notable win at The Players and another at Pebble Beach to make for quite the season in his own right.
