Aaron Ramsey has spoken out about the "surprise" and disappointment of his exit from Mexican side Pumas.

The Wales international has addressed his departure from the Liga MX team for the first time saying he "had no choice but to come home to Wales".

In a post on Instagram, the 34-year-old thanked the coaching and medical staff for helping him through a "difficult time with injuries" but said that he was "match fit" and "looking forward to giving my best to the Pumas" when his contract was terminated.

The former Arsenal midfielder only made six appearances for the Mexican side having joined on a short-term contract in July, becoming the first high-profile British player to play in the Liga MX.

Ramsey had to wait two months to make his first appearance for the Mexico City based club due to a hamstring injury suffered in a 2-1 Cardiff victory over Luton on 11 March.

In his Instagram post Ramsey thanked "the Mexican people for their kindness and generosity and making me and my family feel so welcome in Mexico City".

He said: "I also want to give a big thanks to the manager, the coaching staff and particularly the medical staff for helping me through what was a difficult time with injuries.

"However with their help and a lot of hard work I was ready and match fit for the remaining games and I was looking forward to giving my best to the Pumas.

"Unfortunately my contract was terminated which was a surprise and obviously disappointing. Therefore I had no choice but to come home to Wales.

"Thank you again for all the support through the time we spent in Mexico. It's a beautiful place and we will definitely come back to visit soon."

BBC Sport Wales have approached Pumas for comment.
