Players from G.P. North, Carlson, Dakota, Regina and South Lyon East are finalists for the Freep Buffalo Wild Wings Girls Athlete of the Week.
It's time to vote for the Detroit Free Press Buffalo Wild Wings Girls Prep Athlete of the Week.
This week's poll features five basketball players who had standout performances in the opening week of the MHSAA girls basketball season during the week of Dec. 7-13.
Voting will close at noon on Friday, Dec. 19.
Here are the nominees (listed in alphabetical order by last name):
Eva Borowski, Grosse Pointe North
Grosse Pointe North won its first two games behind Borowski's efforts. The senior guard had a triple-double in the opening contest against Utica on Tuesday, Dec. 9, where she had 27 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. She followed that performance up in team's victory over Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett on Thursday, with 21 points, nine steals, eight rebounds and three assists.
Addison Burgei, Gibraltar Carlson
The freshman guard contributed to Carlson's 3-0 start on the season, defeating Grosse Ile, Allen Park and Livonia Churchill. Burgei had 26 points, 24 rebounds, 14 steals and eight assists in the three-game stretch.
Brooklyn Garavaglia, Macomb Dakota
Dakota split its opening games defeating Fraser on Tuesday and coming up short to Oxford on Thursday. Garavaglia had 27 points, three assists, three steals and two rebounds in Tuesday's matchup. She went on to finish Thursday's game with 13 points plus four rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Emersen Holder, Warren Regina
Holder is looking to make her case as Macomb County's best player and is off to the right start proving it. Regina dominated in its season opener in a 66-29 victory over Clarkston Everest Collegiate on Tuesday, when Holder scored 34 points, scoring six times from three. The team also defeated Ann Arbor Pioneer, 56-30, on Friday, as the sophomore guard finished with 25 points, eight rebounds and seven steals.
Nyla Lake, South Lyon East
Lake led South Lyon East to three straight victories over Wixom St. Catherine, Saline and Grand Blanc last week. The senior guard for the Cougars averaged 19 points, six rebounds and three assists and shot 66% from the field in the team's three games.
