It was a painful result for NC State last night but a gutsy effort by the team to pull back even and push the game to extra time. The season was historic regardless of how it ended—this group achieved a No. 1 ranking in the polls at one point, took the program to its second-ever Final Four and first-ever national title game.
There have been a lot of surreal experiences for me as a State fan over the last decade, and seeing 10,000 Wolfpack fans at a men’s soccer game ranks up there. Who knows, maybe this weekend was a turning point that’ll generate more interest in the sport and the program in Raleigh. (I’d be remiss if I didn’t note here that support on campus is already strong.)
This team is going to leave an impressive legacy behind, and they should be proud of that. Now we just have to figure out how to have a banner-raising ceremony in an open-air stadium. Perhaps one of those small inflatable blimps you sometimes see at NBA/NHL games could lift it up so that it might be properly saluted for a few minutes to begin next season.
Good problem to have, if you ask me. Appreciate the guys for the ride this fall.
