The coach also opened up on Marc Casado’s position.
Hansi Flick spoke before kick-off against Guadalajara in the Copa del Rey about his decision to go with Marc-Andre ter Stegen ahead of Wojciech Szczęsny in goal.
It was widely reported in the Catalan media ahead of the match that Szczesny would be in the starting XI, but it’s Ter Stegen who has been given the nod with the Pole on the bench.
Flick was quizzed on his selection decision ahead of kick-off and asked if Ter Stegen was ahead of Szczesny in the pecking order but explained his decision “is only for today” and that “he’s fit and can show he’s ready.“
The Barcelona boss also spoke about his decision to use Marc Casado at right-back after saying in his pre-match press conference the midfielder would not play in that position.
“Casado will play at full-back, for me he’s more of a defensive midfielder or central midfielder, but I wanted to give Jules a rest and it’s important that he gets some playing time,” he said.
