Angels add to bullpen with signings of Romano, Pomeranz

Los Angeles made a pair of additions on Monday evening in hopes of shoring up its bullpen.

The Los Angeles Angels added some bullpen depth with a pair of signings on Monday evening, reportedly agreeing to deals with right-hander Jordan Romano and left-hander Drew Pomeranz.

Romano, a 32-year-old two-time All-Star, spent the 2025 campaign as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. He struggled mightily, posting an 8.23 ERA in 49 total appearances.

He had appeared in just 15 games the season before for the Toronto Blue Jays, working to a 6.59 ERA and missing the majority of the year with an elbow injury. The right-hander had previously found promise in Toronto, earning back-to-back All-Star selections in 2022 and 2023 while recording 72 saves during that stretch.

Los Angeles will look to help him return to the version of himself that tallied 95 saves from 2021-2023, holding an ERA below 2.20 in two of those seasons. His one-year deal with the Halos is worth $2 million.

Drew Pomeranz heads to the Angels following an impressive return to baseball in 2025 with the Chicago Cubs, where he pitched 49 2/3 innings with a 2.17 ERA. The 37-year-old did not appear in the Major Leagues from 2022-2024, battling injury setbacks and working to return his body to health.

Now, the 12-year veteran will look to build on his momentum from an inspiring comeback season, with Los Angeles looking for another reliable left-handed option. Pomeranz joins Brock Burke as the only other current southpaw option in the bullpen.

The Angels continue to load up on players who have shown past flashes of promise despite recent struggles or injury setbacks. This time around, it's a pair of players in Romano and Pomeranz that will look to add much-needed consistency to a bullpen that finished 2025 with the highest ERA in the American League.
