The Nebraska Cornhuskers will have a new quarterback under center next fall as several reputable reports indicated Monday.

College football media pundits like Will Compton, a former Cornhuskers linebacker and Barstool Sports podcast host, have begun to weigh-in on the situation. It is also getting back to the Cornhuskers' coaching staff though, too,  including offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen.

Holgorsen met reporters Tuesday as the Cornhuskers are gearing up for their bowl game against the Utah Utes Dec. 31 and was asked to comment about Raiola's immediate future in Lincoln. Although Holgorsen didn't officially confirm quarterback Dylan Raiola's intent to enter the portal, he did admit a massive discrepancy that may have held Raiola back from being a long-term star.

“There's times where I thought we were really headed in the right direction. There's times where we weren't,” Holgorsen said. "I mean, that falls on me, not just from his perspective, from the whole offense’s perspective."

Holgorsen kept it classy when discussing Raiola holistically, but admitted it's a "new norm" for the transfer portal not to play a key factor every season.

“I’m not going to speak on any of that,” Holgorsen said. “I really loved working with Dylan. He’s a great kid and gave a lot to this place for two years.”

Regardless of who the quarterback is, Holgorsen said his job remains status quo and would rather discuss who is part of the program rather than not.

“At the end of the day, my job’s not done here,” Holgorsen said. “Coach Rhule hired me to come in and get us as good as we can on offense, and I don’t feel like we’re at that point right now.”

Holgorsen said he knows what kind of quarterback the team is looking for. Now it's about execution.

“The way I look at it is you get the best player you can,” Holgorsen said. “We can mold our coaching around what that player does well and what his skill set is.”

With a few quarterbacks already intending to enter, it seems as if Nebraska will have plenty of options as January approaches.

For the time being, though, the postseason remains the key focus.
