Purple Row After Dark: Rockies hire Jeff Pickler as bench coach

The Rockies continue to build their coaching staff.

The Colorado Rockies announced on Wednesday afternoon that they have hired Cincinnati Reds’ bench coach Jeff Pickler. He will also be the Rockies bench coach on Warren Schaeffer’s staff.

In addition to being the Reds’ bench coach, Pickler worked as their game planning/infield coach in 2024. Prior to that, he was their game planning/outfield coach from 2019-2022 and game planning/infield coach in 2023.

Before his time in Cincinnati, Pickler spent 2017 and 2018 with the Minnesota Twins as an outfield coach and coordinator of Major League development. Additionally, he worked with recently-hired GM Josh Byrnes with the Arizona Diamondbacks, San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers within his scouting and player development departments.

“We are beyond excited to bring Jeff Pickler onto the staff,” said Schaeffer in a press release.

“His experience on the bench and the way he sees the game are going to be of immense value to the players, the rest of the staff, and me personally. He embodies a tireless work ethic and is obsessed with finding solutions. ‘Pick’ is a big addition for the Rockies. I can’t wait to get to work with him.”

Pickler is originally from Garden Grove, CA and was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 11th round of the 1998 MLB Draft out of the University of Tennessee. He played eight seasons in the minor league systems of the Brewers (1998-2001), Rangers (2002-04), and Rockies (2005).
