The Chelsea board are reportedly unhappy with Enzo Maresca, and there is an out of work manager in pole position to replace him.
This all comes off the back of what happened at Chelsea since the weekend, where of course Enzo Maresca made some comments after the Everton game.
EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea legend keen on return to Stamford Bridge and will not ask for big wages!
David Ornstein of The Athletic dropped his info on this situation earlier this week, and there are some very interesting takeaways from it. There is certainly a tense situation going on here.
And Jamie Carragher has already said that after these comments, he does not think Maresca will be in charge at Chelsea from next season. But could it be sooner than that even?
I personally do not think Chelsea will make a change midseason, but at the same time, we know that this is a very high pressured job so anything can happen if results turn again. Either way, I think Maresca will go in the summer, that’s just my gut feeling here.
Xavi to replace him?
Former Barcelona boss Xavi is apparently in pole position to replace Maresca.
Football Insider are claiming that Chelsea’s board will not be happy with Maresca after he doubled down on his comments on Monday, with Xavi believed to be in pole position to replace him at Stamford Bridge if his sacking is confirmed soon.
Xavi has been out of management since he was sacked by the Catalan giants in May 2024 after two-and-a-half years in charge.
Experienced option
Xavi would certainly be a more experienced option for Chelsea, something that they haven’t look towards since they sacked Mauricio Pochettino.
So I’d be surprised to see them turn back in that direction again, even if Xavi is a top coach.
