Texas RB Rickey Stewart expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal

Stewart did not make an appearance for the Longhorns in his one season in the program.

Texas Longhorns freshman running back Rickey Stewart is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal when the window opens in January, according to a Thursday report from Inside Texas.

Stewart is the second running back whose intentions to enter the portal have become public, joining redshirt sophomore CJ Baxter, and is departing the Forty Acres without appearing in a game for the Longhorns.

A member of the 2025 recruiting class out of Tyler Chapel Hill, the 5’10, 197-pounder committed to former running backs coach Tashard Choice and played under former running backs coach Chad Scott, who was terminated last week by head coach Steve Sarkisian. Initially pledged to SMU, Stewart committed to Texas after receiving his offer from the Longhorns prior to taking official visits to both schools. When Stewart signed with Texas, he was a consensus four-star prospect ranked as the No. 419 prospect nationally and the No. 29 running back, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Stewart spent the 2025 season as the last scholarship running back on the depth chart and is moving on as the Horns restructure the position room in the midst of new assistant Jabbar Juluke attempting to bring Jadan Baugh with him from Florida.
