Packers-Bears Injury Report: Josh Jacobs, 9 others questionable vs. Chicago

You can only bank on 43 members of the Green Bay Packers’ 53-man roster being healthy enough to play the Chicago Bears.

The Green Bay Packers are banged up. The team didn’t just lose Micah Parsons on Sunday. As it stands right now, on Thursday, the Packers have already ruled out three players against the Chicago Bears, and ten more Green Bay players are listed as questionable to play on Saturday.

Packers Ruled Out

  • RB MarShawn Lloyd (calf/hamstring)
  • TE Josh Whyle (concussion)
  • OL John Williams (back – PUP)

The only injury on this list that will impact the Packers, as neither MarShawn Lloyd or John Williams has played in a game this regular season, is tight end Josh Whyle. With Whyle out, Tucker Kraft on injured reserve and former 53-man roster member Ben Sims poached by the Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay will probably need to call up one of their two practice squad tight ends, McCallan Castles or Drake Dabney, for action this weekend.

Packers Ruled Questionable

  • RB Josh Jacobs (knee/ankle)
  • RB Chris Brooks (chest)
  • WR Christian Watson (chest/shoulder)
  • WR Dontayvion Wicks (ankle)
  • RT Zach Tom (back/knee)
  • OL Darian Kinnard (neck)
  • DE Kingsley Enagbare (illness)
  • DE Brenton Cox Jr. (groin – IR)
  • DE Collin Oliver (hamstring – PUP)
  • S Evan Williams (knee)

The Packers are dealing with several injuries at multiple positions: running back, receiver, right tackle and defensive end. If Green Bay is down two players at the same position, the team will almost certainly need to bring players up from the practice squad, which will be done on Friday. Look for those to be the canary in the coal mine.

Josh Jacobs re-injured his knee last week, but tends to battle through injury. I don’t want to hang my hat on Jacobs dressing for the game, but I guess that he will.

Right tackle is a mess, as Zach Tom dropped out of the loss to the Broncos with a knee injury and was replaced by Darian Kinnard, who is now dealing with a neck injury, too. The Packers worked both Kinnard and Jordan Morgan at right tackle this week, so it seems pretty clear that Morgan will start at tackle for the first time in his career if Kinnard and Tom both can’t go.

Receiver Christian Watson seemed confident that he would play this week, based on his post-practice comments.

If Evan Williams can’t go, the safety position will probably be shared by Javon Bullard, typically the team’s slot defender, and Zayne Anderson.

Bears Injury Report

  • RB D’Andre Swift – questionable
  • WR Rome Odunze – out
  • WR Luther Burden III – out
  • TE Cole Kmet – questionable
  • DE Joe Tryon-Shoyinka – questionable
  • LB Tremaine Edmunds – questionable
  • LB Amen Ogbongbemiga – out

The big news here is that the Bears will be out two of their top receivers, 2024 first-round pick Rome Odunze and 2025 second-round pick Luther Burden III. Burden might save himself some money by not playing this week.

Among the questionable players, keep an eye on running back D’Andre Swift, who suffered a groin injury and was limited in the final two practices of the week, and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, a former Pro Bowler who is still technically on the injured reserve but was a full participant in Thursday’s practice.
