Just because the 2025 high school football season has pretty much ended, for the exception of Texas high school football’s state championships still ongoing, doesn’t mean there isn’t some interesting jobs that are currently open right now.
Question is, which high school football head coaching job is the most attractive right now? There’s a number of them all over the country and I’m sure there might be one we miss, but we take a look at the top five high school football head coaching openings thus far.
1. Corner Canyon (Utah)
We top the list with the team that saw its head coach bolt to become a head coach on the college level in the Corner Canyon Chargers. Now you may wonder why the Chargers and not the Panthers (see below)? Well, there’s reasons beyond the talent on the field of why this position is so attractive. Eric Kjar, who is now at Weber State, only ten games in nine seasons at Corner Canyon while chalking up 112 victories. Being able to find immediate success at a powerhouse school in Utah would seemingly be easier in a sense compared to that of the high school football hungry states like the ones below in Alabama, California, Georgia and Texas, respectively. Yes, the team loses an all-timer in quarterback Helaman Casuga, but team will bring back talent. 2027 three-stars Diesel Dart and Manase Brown are slated to return and history tells us the Chargers are a quarterback factory when it comes to the names that have graduated and moved on to the college and NFL level. Something the program will have at its disposal for whomever takes on the job is a brand new state-of-the-art indoor practice facility, which has become more and more of a game changer on the high school level. For a program that just over a year ago beat IMG Academy in Draper, this is a top-of-the-line job for whichever high school head coach lands it.
2. North Crowley (Texas)
The sudden departure of Ray Gates in accepting a job on the collegiate level leaves one of Texas high school football program’s scrambling for a new head coach. Gates will be the special assistant under North Texas head coach Neal Brown and finishes his tenure at North Crowley after four successful seasons, compiling a record of 54-4 with a UIL Class 6A, Division I state championship in 2024. What can’t be argue is Gates has built this program up to being one of the state’s best teams and they remained in championship contention all throughout the 2025 campaign. Of all the programs on this short list, the Panthers possesses the most potential when it comes to returning talent on the roster. North Crowley is slated to bring back players like 2027 four-star cornerback Jerry Outhouse, 2027 three-star safety Elijajuan Houston, 2028 four-star wide receiver Damarion Mays and 2027 three-star tight end Jeramie Cooper. The cupboard isn’t bare and whomever takes on this job should be able to compete immediately.
3. Moody (Alabama)
This job was rumored to come open after the 2025 campaign during the Alabama high school football state championships as Jake Ganus led the Blue Devils to a Class 5A state title. It would be days later that Ganus stepped down from the Moody job and two weeks later when he accepted the Pell City job. Now Alabama’s defending Class 5A state champions are looking for a new head football coach and though many believe the program will not be able to maintain the level of success they just had, this Moody job is enticing for the challenge of keeping a program at a state championship-level. If the team can stay together, the Blue Devils have some good building blocks as the foundation with 2027 four-star EDGE Ba’Roc Willis to start with for any incoming coach.
4. Long Beach Poly (California)
The Jackrabbits are not far removed from when they went 10-2 campaign in 2023, where Long Beach Poly fell to Servite in the CIF Division II state quarterfinals. This was also where current Mater Dei head coach Raul Lara coached at for 13 seasons, from 2001-2013, winning five CIF Southern Section championships. This is a California high school football program where a coach can win at as the team has seen success over the course of the last several years. The Golden State program has produced multiple NFL stars over the years. Long Beach Poly has produced multiple NFL stars in its history like DeSean Jackson, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Jurrell Casey, Matt Corral and Jack Jones. Though last season’s 5-5 finish was marred by ineligibility issues, which forced the team to forfeit a game, the Jackrabbits have a long, storied history when it comes to high school football.
5. Brunswick (Georgia)
We had to include the Brunswick Pirates and yes, we know of what happened at the end of their season. The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) has lifted the Brunswick football program’s playoff ban for the 2026 season and also done away with a majority of the player suspensions handed down from the fight with Gainesville. With the Pirates being able to compete for the GHSA playoffs in 2026 after all, the team is slated to bring back a pair of 1,000-yard rushers in Josiah Gibbons and Nigel Gardner. Tucked away along South Georgia’s Golden Isles coastal area, Brunswick is an attractive destination for a head coach looking to take on one of Georgia’s Top 10 Class 5A teams from the 2025 season. With 11 region championships under their belt, there’s no reason a new head coach couldn’t come in and see success sooner rather than later.
