No Complaints As Referee Gets Key Decisions Right In Inter Milan Supercoppa Defeat To Bologna

Italian media have largely backed the officiating in Inter Milan’s Supercoppa Italiana defeat to Bologna, with La Gazzetta dello Sport giving positive marks to referee Daniele Chiffi for his handling of the key incidents.

The pink paper focused its post-match moviola analysis on the two decisive moments inside the penalty areas, concluding that both VAR interventions were correct and that there was little room for controversy.

The first episode came in the opening half, when Bologna were awarded a penalty following a handball by Yann Bisseck.

“In the 31st minute of the first half, Bisseck touches the ball with his right hand inside the area,” Gazzetta explains.

“Chiffi went to the monitor also to evaluate the contact with Castro just before the touch. However, that contact is irrelevant.”

The assessment underlined that the handball itself was clear and justified the spot-kick decision.

The second major moment arrived early in the second half.

Inter were initially awarded a penalty for a challenge involving Heggem and Ange-Yoan Bonny.

That decision was overturned after a VAR review. “At the 11th minute of the second half, a foul by Heggem on Bonny is whistled live,” the report continues.

“But on the monitor it is clear that it is the attacker who looks for the contact.

“Indeed, cutting to his left with his left leg, which also ends up touching the Norwegian’s right leg.”

Overall, Gazzetta dello Sport’s verdict was clear: Chiffi handled the most delicate situations correctly, with VAR providing decisive support.

In a night of frustration for Inter, refereeing decisions were not among the issues to contest.
