New Jersey Devils head coach, Sheldon Keefe, said the magic words. It sounds like some massive lineup returns are imminent.

Following the Devils’ 2-1 victory against the Utah Mammoth on Friday, Keefe explained the Devils should have a fuller lineup when they play their next game, hosting the Buffalo Sabres.

“I think we will get some bodies back when we get home for Sunday,” Keefe explained.

Coming into Friday, the Devils accrued 182 man-games lost as the injuries appeared never-ending since the beginning of the season.

However, the Devils recently saw Brett Pesce return to action, and it appears more will follow.

The first player that comes to mind for most is Jack Hughes. Early indications were there was an optimistic chance he could return before the holiday break. Well, we’re just three nights away from five days away from Christmas, and the Devils have two more games on the schedule between now and then.

Certainly, Jack would be a welcomed, and the most impactful addition to return to the lineup. It’s been 35 days since the Devils announced his, “…expected return to play timeline is eight weeks and he will be re-evaluated at the six-week mark.”

The Devils also received positive news on Arsney Gritsyuk. Via his telegram, the 24-year-old Russian forward explained he received positive news in his latest evaluation, making him a candidate for a potential return.

Timo Meier is on personal leave, thus, it’s a bit more difficult to project his anticipated return. However, he can’t be ruled out, as he’s eligible to return at any time.

Additional names that are on the injured list are Evgenii Dadonov, Zack MacEwen, Johnathan Kovacevic, and Simon Nemec.

The Devils are coming off a massive two-game sweep on the road (beating the Mammoth and Vegas Golden Knights, and are returning to the Prudential Center against the Sabres on Sunday, before heading out to Long Island on Tuesday to face the New York Islanders.
