Barcelona star could dictate the club’s plans for next summer’s transfer window

The situation of Ronald Araújo looks set to play a significant role in the plans of the Barcelona board for the 2026 summer transfer window.

This comes amid the understanding that the Uruguayan’s mental health could determine the kind of player targeted by Deco and co. for next season.

Defender Araújo is for his part currently in the midst of a spell away from Hansi Flick’s squad.

After being targeted in ruthless fashion by fans and the media alike in the aftermath of his costly red card against Chelsea in the Champions League, the 26-year-old was left in mental and emotional turmoil.

Araújo therefore requested some time off to recover, a wish which Hansi Flick and co. were quick to grant.

The question remains, though, of just how long the South American will be away, as well as what kind of form he will return in.

And such factors look set to play into Barca’s plans for next season…

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, should Araújo manage to fully recover, the Catalans are expected to target a young central defender with plenty of room for growth next summer.

On the other hand, should the stopper continue to struggle, a more ready-made profile will be sought, capable of slotting directly into a prominent role at the Spotify Camp Nou.
