Despite an underwhelming debut season in the capital, Roma remain firmly behind young striker Evan Ferguson, who is on loan from Brighton.

Speaking to the microphones of Sky and DAZN before the high-stakes clash against Juventus, sporting director Ricky Massara addressed the 20-year-old’s progress, emphasizing that the club has full confidence in his long-term potential.

He said – relayed by ForzaRoma: “We believe in him, he arrived in Italy just four months ago, he is a 2004-born player, and he needs time to adapt. He is giving important signals; he is a strong player who is still growing.”

The director’s comments serve as a public vote of confidence for the Irishman, who has found consistent minutes hard to come by in a tactical setup that often demands immediate maturity.

Ferguson’s current situation was highlighted by his exclusion from the starting XI against Juventus, with Gian Piero Gasperini opting for Paulo Dybala in a more fluid attacking role without a traditional “heavy” number nine.

While Ferguson started on the bench for the trip to Turin, his recent exploits in Europe provide a glimpse of his quality. The former Brighton man recently found the net with a clinical brace against Celtic in the Europa League, showing the predatory instincts that prompted Roma to invest in him last summer.

Massara admitted that the offensive department remains the most likely area for reinforcement in January, with names like Joshua Zirkzee and Giacomo Raspadori circulating. However, he was quick to frame Ferguson not as a problem, but as a project in development. For now, the Giallorossi are content to let their young star find his feet, banking on his European form to eventually translate into Serie A consistency.
