ARLINGTON, TEXAS - Duncanville and Galena Park North Shore are quite familiar with one another around this time of year.
For the sixth time in the past eight seasons, these elite Texas programs - one from the Dallas metropolitan area and the other from the Houston metro - collide for a University Interscholastic League state championship. The latest edition of the Panthers and the Mustangs takes place Saturday afternoon at AT&T Stadium for the 6A Division I championship

North Shore then beat the Panthers the following season, 2019, and again in 2021.
But the Panthers got the upper hand in 2022 and again in 2023 with a 49-33 win. Neither team made it to Arlington last season, but both North Shore and Duncanville are back in “Jerry World” with a vengeance.
Duncanville enters Saturday’s game at 12-1 overall, with its lone defeat coming by a single point against Waxahachie in the Panthers’ second game. But the Panthers avenged that defeat to Waxahachie with a 35-27 win two weeks ago in the regional finals; then in last week’s semifinals, Duncanville dominated a previously undefeated Allen squad, 31-9.
This will be the seventh time Duncanville is in the state title game. Along with the titles won in 2022 and again in 2023, the Panthers won in their first-ever championship game appearance, 1998.
North Shore enters Saturday’s game at 13-2. The Mustangs lost in the season opener to South Oak Cliff, which earlier on Saturday captured the 5A Division II championship, and then lost in the regular season finale to Humble Summer Creek.
But in the postseason, the Mustangs have leveled up. They have won all five playoff games by an average margin of 25 points, including a 46-29 win against previously undefeated Dickinson in the regional finals and then a 28-6 win last week in the semifinals against Lake Travis, which also came in undefeated.
The Mustangs will be making their ninth appearance in a state championship game, and will be seeking their sixth championship.
