Former Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given has accused Alejandro Garnacho of making a “really dangerous” challenge during the 2-2 draw at St James’ Park.

The Blues recovered from a terrible first half performance in which a Nick Woltemade brace saw them 2-0 down at the break.

However, Chelsea came out a different team in the second half, with a brilliant Reece James free kick starting the comeback, before Joao Pedro scored the equaliser.

Shay Given not happy with Alejandro Garnacho

As expected Enzo Maresca made a whole host of changes from the side which beat Cardiff in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

Garnacho scored twice against Cardiff, and found himself in the starting line-up, and would have fancied his chances up against makeshift right back Lewis Miley.

Unfortunately, Garnacho wasn’t able to have an impact, and he was once again wasteful with his finishing like against Everton.

There were a few contentious decisions with Eddie Howe not happy about Trevoh Chalobah’s challenge on Anthony Gordon in the box, which he felt should have been a penalty.

Given was also unhappy with Garnacho, and feels he should have been punished for a late challenge on Jacob Ramsey.

“There was a few decisions the referee had to make and they weren’t easy, don’t get my wrong,” he told BBC’s Match of the Day.

“The first one came in the first half and I thought it was a really nasty challenge from Alejandro Garnacho.

“If you watch it slowly, he doesn’t make any attempt to play the ball, he goes over the top and clearly catches him really high up.

“VAR didn’t intervene but I think that’s a really dangerous tackle from Garnacho and one he gets away with.”

Estevao in line to return against Aston Villa

Chelsea lacked options on the wing against Newcastle, with Estevao out injured, whilst Jamie Gittens was also missing from the match day squad.

Estevao has a muscle injury which has caused him to miss the last two games, but Maresca confirmed he should be fit to face Aston Villa next weekend.

The teenager has made a positive impact this season, and the sooner he returns the better it will be for Chelsea.
