‘We need to manage that better’ – Frenkie de Jong sends message to Barcelona after Villarreal win

The Dutchman is happy but says improvements are needed.

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong admitted his team have room for improvement after Sunday’s 2-0 win over Villarreal in La Liga.

Goals from Raphinha and Lamine Yamal secured all three points for the visitors, but the Yellow Submarine created plenty of chances throughout the 90 minutes.

De Jong shared his verdict afterwards and says Barcelona need to improve to stop teams causing problems when they break quickly.

“Very happy. We finished the year as leaders, which was the goal. Now it’s time to rest,” he told Movistar.

“Villarreal breaks quickly, they have fast and talented players up front. We need to manage that a bit better. When we attack, we need to be better organized. On the pitch, I always felt we were superior. I wouldn’t say comfortable, but I think it’s a deserved victory.”

The win means Barca head into the festive break still four points clear at the top of the table in Spain, leaving De Jong happy but not getting carried away just yet.

“We’re doing well. It’s not the time for trophies, but we’re doing well, we’re on the right track,” he added.

“We’re top of the league, we’re in the Cup and the Champions League. We’re still in contention. We’re happy.”
