Packers’ Malik Willis has a shoulder injury

QB1 and QB2 are both injured in Green Bay. The Packers have one more quarterback and some emergency options, though.

Green Bay Packers backup quarterback Malik Willis was shaken up on a sack to end the first half against the Chicago Bears, when he came into the game after starter Jordan Love left with an injury. On Sunday, head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that Willis is dealing with a shoulder injury (likely to his throwing arm), a less-than-ideal situation for a team that is fighting for their playoff lives.

LaFleur gave no updates on Love today, stating that it’s tough to project how quickly a player will pass through concussion protocol. For example, tight end Josh Whyle was concussed against the Denver Broncos and wasn’t available for the team against the Bears this weekend. It’s completely within the realm of possibility that Love is out next week against the Baltimore Ravens.

Hopefully, Willis’ shoulder is healthy. Otherwise, the Packers’ last true quarterback option is Clayton Tune, a practice squadder who was signed by the team after camp had concluded. Tune has a 0-1 record as a starter in the NFL and has completed 14 of 23 passes for 70 yards (3.0 yards per attempt) with two interceptions and no touchdowns. In his lone start with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023, he passed for three first downs on 27 dropbacks, which included seven sacks taken. The Cardinals lost that game 27-0.

LaFleur also confirmed that the team has multiple “emergency quarterback” options, if it comes down to it. The coach said both running back Josh Jacobs and receiver Jayden Reed are options if things get hairy.

Jacobs has one dropback at the NFL level, a four-yard sack he took with the 2023 Las Vegas Raiders. Reed hasn’t had a pass attempt as a professional.
