Per a report from CBS Sports, three of Michigan Football’s seniors will be opting out of the Citrus Bowl matchup vs Texas on New Year’s Eve:
In the midst of all of Michigan’s coaching search drama, there’s still a game to prepare for, with the Wolverines preparing to take on Texas in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
That is — for everyone except Derrick Moore, Giovanni El-Hadi and Jaishawn Barham, who will all be opting out of the game. This was first reported on Sunday evening by Brandon Marcello of CBS Sports.
Moore, a senior defensive end announced on Saturday he would be declaring for the NFL Draft. Barham is also a likely draft pick after his solid showing this year, while El-Hadi will likely fight it out for a roster spot as a Day 3 pick or undrafted free agent.
After playing sparingly over his first two seasons, Moore took on a larger role on defense the last two seasons under defensive coordinator Wink Martindale. It wasn’t until this year we saw him reach his full potential, recording 9.5 sacks and 34 pressures.
Barham similarly had an impressive year rushing the passer after transitioning from linebacker to the edge. El-Hadi was one of Michigan’s captains this year and has been in and out of the starting lineup on the offensive line over the last four seasons. He primarily played at left guard, but also has a year of experience at right guard.
With just over a week to go until Michigan takes the field and other NFL Draft candidates on both sides of the ball, it’s likely we’ll see a few more players opt out of the bowl game in the coming days.
