FC Bayern still don’t see a permanent buy of Nicolas Jackson as realistic right now
Nicolas Jackson is currently with the Senegal national team at the African Cup of Nations in Morocco, but when he comes back to Bayern Munich, his future is still uncertain. After a drama-filled end to the summer transfer window where Jackson’s loan move from Chelsea to Bayern was on, then off, back on, then off, then back on again, the Senegalese striker finally found his way to Munich, but he might not be with the German Rekordmeister beyond this season. Liam Delap’s early season injury for Chelsea very nearly saw the move completely fall apart altogether.
According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (via @iMiaSanMia), at this stage, Bayern do not see a permanent buy of Jackson for a fee of around €65m as something that’s very realistic. There’s still plenty of time in the second half of the season for the club to assess his performances as Vincent Kompany’s side continue to push across all three fronts, but he’ll still be playing second fiddle to Harry Kane. It would take a lot to happen in Jackson’s favor for Bayern to consider a permanent sale, especially since the buy-on trigger clause in the loan deal included Jackson having to make a certain number of appearances this season that he won’t come close to making, which former club president Uli Hoeneß was a staunch critic of. He felt that it was a bit ridiculous to have such a high loan fee (€16.5m) + buy-on clause with an unrealistic trigger clause.
So far this season, Jackson has tallied five goals and one assist from a total of eighteen appearances across all competitions, all of which have come against so-called lesser sides bar his goal against Bayer Leverkusen. All of his other goals and assist have come against the likes of SC Freiburg, St. Pauli, Pafos FC, and Club Brugge.
Even still, Kompany will need all of the depth he can get in the second half of the season. His side have hardly put a foot wrong so far, even without having Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala for the entire first half of the season aside from Davies having just returned. Their only slipups have come in the form of a loss to Arsenal, draw to Union Berlin, and draw to Mainz, but they’re still top of the Bundesliga, into the knockout stages of the Champions Leauge, and into the quarterfinals of the DFB-Pokal.
