Bavarian Loan Works: End of the year wrap-up

Where does your favorite loanee sit at the end of the calendar year?

As the year wraps up, most of the European leagues where Bayern loanees are playing, are preparing for a winter break. Asp and Zvornerk both scored Grasshopper in separate matches. Mainz is sitting in last place in the Bundesliga, but finished in the top 8 of the Conference League table, earning a bye into the Round of 16. Read below to see how each loanee and their team performed this week and also where they sit in their league table going into the winter months.

FC Bayern Munich

There are nine players from on loan from the first team.

Germany – Bundesliga

There are four players on loan to the German Bundesliga: Alexander Nübel, Arijon Ibrahimovic, Daniel Peretz, and Armando Sieb.

Alexander Nübel – VfB Stuttgart

Nübel started in goal for Stuttgart against Hoffenheim. He only recorded one save, but it was enough to earn his team a shutout — and curiously the highest rating of any player on either team. Stuttgart were not able to find a goal and the match ended in a scoreless draw.

Stuttgart sits in sixth place, which would earn a Conference League or possibly a Europa League spot. In this season’s Europa League they sit in 9th place with two matches left. They are just one point behind eighth place and a bye.

Arijon Ibrahimović– 1. FC Heidenheim

Ibrahimović started on the bench for Heidenheim’s match home match against Bayern. He came into the match at halftime with his current team down 2-0 to his parent club. He had one shot attempt — which went over the bar and was credited as a big chance missed. He had a couple freekick attempts in dangerous areas, but Bayern’s defense and his deliveries were not good enough to get past them. Bayern added two more goals and won 4-0 at Heidenheim.

Heidenheim are in 17th place going into the winter break with just 11 points.

Daniel Peretz – Hamburger SV

Peretz was on the bench for HSV’s 1-1 draw at home against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Hamburg sits in 13th place with 16 points. They are currently four points clear of the relegation zone.

Armindo Sieb – 1. FSV Mainz 05

Sieb was on the bench for Mainz’ 2-0 win against Turkish side Samsunspor in the Conference League. Mainz finished in the seventh place and earned the bye through to the Round of 16.

Sieb started on the bench for Mainz’ home match against St Pauli. He came into the match in the 78th minute with the match level at 0-0. He had one chance to find his team a winner. In the 90th minute, he took had a shot attempt from inside the box after a fastbreak, but it was saved. Other than that he was not able to influence the match much, and it ended in a scoreless draw.

Mainz currently sit in last place in the Bundesliga with just eight points.

England – Premier League

There are two player on loan to the English Premier League: João Palhinha and Jonah Kusi-Asare.

João Palhinha – Tottenham

Palhinha started on the bench for Tottenham’s match at home against Liverpool. He came into the match in the 71st minute with his team down 2-0 and short a man due to a first-half sending off. He finally had a shot attempt — two of them in fact — both were blocked. He also had just one pass attempt that did not reach its target. Spurs pulled one back, but could not find an equalizer. Tottenham fell 2-1 and only had nine men at the end of the game.

Tottenham and the Premier League will play through the winter break. They currently sit in 13th place in the Premier League with 22 points. They also sit in 11th place in the Champions League — just one point behind the teams currently sitting in sixth through eighth place — with two matches remaining.

Fulham have not been in action since the last edition. They currently sit in 15th place with 20 points.

Zaragoza was not in the matchday squad for Celta Vigo’s 2-2 draw in the Copa del Rey that saw them eliminated after a scoreless extra time and a 3-0 deficit in penalties.

He returned the matchday squad with a start against Real Oviedo on the road. He had one shot — on goal from outside the box — and created two shots for his teammates to shoot. He was subbed off in the 63rd minute with the match still level at 0-0. Neither team scored and the match ended in a scoreless draw.

Celta Vigo sits in seventh place in La Liga — just outside of European qualification — with 23 points. They are also in 19th place in the Europa League table with two matches left.

Switzerland – Super League

Lovro Zvonarek is the only player on loan from the first team to the Swiss Super League.

Lovro Zvonarek – Grasshopper

Zvonarek started for Grasshopper against Young Boys in a midweek league match. He drew a foul in the penalty box and then stepped up to take it himself but was unsuccessful. Of his three shots, this was his only on goal. The other two were from outside the box and went wide. He also created two chances for his teammates to shoot. His teammates were able to pick up his slack and scored six goals to win away 6-2.

Zvonarek started again on Sunday against St Gallen. He opened the scoring with a goal in the 43rd minute to level the score at halftime. Unfortunately, the goal would not hold up and St Gallen found a winner just three minutes into the second half. Zvonarek added another shot in the 89th minute, but the potential equalizer went wide. Grasshopper fell 2-1 to end 2025.

Grasshopper sit in 11th place (out of 12) and would be set to play in the relegation round if they cannot make it to the top six before the split happens in the Spring.

Krattenmacher was not in the matchday squad for Hertha’s final match of the calendar year — a 1-1 draw at home against Arminia Bielefeld. He is now on the injury list with an ankle injury with an approximate return of mid-January. Hopefully the winter break will be enough for him to recover.

Hertha is in sixth place of the 2. Bundesliga. They are five points away from the promotion positions.

Buchman was back on the injury list for Nürnberg’s 2-1 win against Hannover. This time it states that he had the flu.

Aseko started for Hannover against Nürnberg and played the full 90 minutes. He did not have a shot but created two shots for his teammates to shoot. He also tracked back on defense and recorded two clearances and three recoveries. This was not enough to help his team earn a win and they fell 2-1.

Hannover is in fifth place on the 2. Bundesliga table with 29 points.

He was subbed off during second half stoppage time. Grasshopper cruised to a 6-2 road win.

Asp started for Grasshopper back home against St Gallen. After a busy midweek match with seven shots, he had just one on Sunday and it hit the post. He was also unable to create any chances for his teammates to shoot. To add insult to injury, Asp also picked up a yellow card, but it does not appear to be tied to a foul. Grasshopper did not have a great day and despite his fellow loanee’s goal, they fell 2-1 in their last match of the calendar year.

Grasshopper sit in 11th place (out of 12) and would be set to play in the relegation round if they cannot make it to the top six before the split happens in the Spring.
