Here are the latest batch of NFL power rankings and where the Dallas Cowboys rank within them.
The Dallas Cowboys were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Saturday evening and played exactly like such was the case a day later. Times are tough as Santa prepares to bring us all toys and trinkets.
Their Super Bowl and/or NFC Championship Game drought is now officially going to hit 30 years of life which means that the national narrative around them is going to continue to be what it is. It is up to some team in the future to change all of that, but until they do the conversation will continue to be what it has been for some time now.
Welcome to the penultimate edition of our power rankings here at Blogging The Boys where we sort every team in the NFL and collect how outlets across the internet view the Cowboys.
Let’s begin.
1 – Seattle Seahawks (LW: 2)
Last Thursday night was amazing. They deserve all of the props.
2 – Los Angeles Rams (LW: 1)
What if we just re-do that game in the NFC Championship?
3 – Buffalo Bills (LW: 4)
The Bills are going to be sick if they don’t emerge from the AFC this year with the usual suspects out of the picture. The time is now.
4 – New England Patriots (LW: 5)
It would be particularly cruel if Buffalo didn’t get there because of a revitalized Patriots team of all groups.
5 – San Francisco 49ers (LW: 7)
It feels like we forgot that this team was very, very good. I think we all remembe rnow.
6 – Chicago Bears (LW: 6)
Perhaps the Bears will find a way, though. Caleb Williams is really finding himself and they are going to be a tough out.
7 – Jacksonville Jaguars (LW: 9)
The Jaguars are also making an impressive name for themselves and have one of the season’s most impressive victories overall with what they did in Denver. Good for Jourdan Lewis!
8 – Denver Broncos (LW: 3)
The winning streak had to end. It is going to be a long week of fighting the allegations that they are a paper tiger.
9 – Houston Texans (LW: 8)
It feels inevitable that their offense is going to let them down, but their defense may be good enough for it to not matter.
10 – Los Angeles Chargers (LW: 10)
Are they really outstanding? Or did they just play the Cowboys?
11 – Philadelphia Eagles (LW: 13)
They broke the NFC East curse. Good for them. Or whatever.
12 – Pittsburgh Steelers (LW: 12)
There is no way that I am going to believe in this team, but they do appear to believe in themselves.
13 – Detroit Lions (LW: 14)
It looks to be over here.
14 – Carolina Panthers (LW: 15)
They may well win their division, but they look like the division winner you want to draw in the Wild Card Round.
15 – Green Bay Packers (LW: 11)
Pile up the losses! Help the draft pick!
16 – Indianapolis Colts (LW: 22)
They have just run out of gas. It is a shame.
17 – Minnesota Vikings (LW: 19)
So they weren’t the greatest team ever?
18 – Baltimore Ravens (LW: 16)
This is an incredibly lost season.
19 – Cincinnati Bengals (LW: 18)
We are seeing way too little too late here.
20 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers (LW: 21)
The collapse has been staggering.
21 – Dallas Cowboys (LW: 17)
Embarrassing.
22 – Kansas City Chiefs (LW: 20)
It is time for a new-look version of the dynasty.
23 – Atlanta Falcons (LW: 23)
You have to wonder if anyone is going to talk themselves into Kirk Cousins in 2026.
24 – New Orleans Saints (LW: 24)
They are going to be a hot pick next year with how they are finishing.
25 – Miami Dolphins (LW: 26)
Who is their head coach or quarterback going to be in the future?
26 – Cleveland Browns (LW: 27)
Will Myles Garrett do it?
27 – Washington Commanders (LW: 25)
Blah.
28 – Tennessee Titans (LW: 30)
Very blah. But in a winning way.
29 – New York Jets (LW: 28)
At least we are not them?
30 – New York Giants (LW: 29)
Or them?
31 – Arizona Cardinals (LW: 31)
They have now lost 12 of their last 13. As we have been saying… you know the one.
32 – Las Vegas Raiders (LW: 32)
Ashton Jeanty hopefully won you a fantasy playoff game at least.
ESPN: 20 (LW: 17)
Here we go.
Rookie of the year: Right guard Tyler Booker
All he had to do was replace a future Hall of Famer in Zack Martin. Booker has not disappointed. The No. 12 pick missed three games because of a high ankle sprain but has elevated his play in the past month. Booker has been one of the reasons the Cowboys have a 4,000-yard passer (Dak Prescott), 1,000-yard rusher (Javonte Williams) and two 1,000-yard receivers (CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens). But what has set him apart is his demeanor. He plays with a professionalism not normally seen in a rookie, and he has a mean streak that helps get the dirty work done. — Todd Archer

And again.
The defense had a little flourish after the trade-deadline acquisition of Quinnen Williams, but the afterglow is gone following another stinker on that side of the ball. It’s fair to point out that the personnel is still quite lacking in multiple spots, but the Cowboys can’t be happy with 140 points allowed in their past four games. The temperature’s rising around coordinator Matt Eberflus, but if the franchise makes a change, it would introduce Dallas’ fourth defensive coordinator in as many years. You saw Brian Schottenheimer’s lack of faith in the unit when he opted to go for it on fourth-and-1 from the Chargers’ 16-yard line in a seven-point game late in the third quarter. Los Angeles stopped Dallas on the play and then scored the final 10 points of the game.

One more spot down.
No Cowboy has ever led the league in passing yards. Dak Prescott could be the first … so, something to play for over the next two weeks.
Yahoo: 19 (LW: 17)
Not quite as far.
The only good news for the Cowboys might be that George Pickens bounced back with 130 yards and a touchdown, which might help ease any concern they might have had about paying him in the offseason. But the defense is still bad. It gave up 452 yards to the Chargers on Sunday, which is more ammo against coordinator Matt Eberflus, a subject of critique from team owner Jerry Jones. This never was a good team, although the constant overreaction to all things Cowboys had people talking about them as a playoff contender for a short time a few weeks ago.
CBS Sports: 20 (LW: 20)
No change here.
The defense was back to being bad again in the loss to the Chargers. Will they make changes to the staff on that side of the ball after the season?
The Athletic: 20 (LW: 20)
They had “one concern” for every team.
One concern: The entire defense
A move to the press box for defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus didn’t do anything to improve the play of his unit, which allowed 452 yards of offense on Sunday. Jerry Jones dismissed the idea of a coordinator change over the last two weeks of the season, but a move there on the Monday after the season ends wouldn’t surprise anyone.
Sports Illustrated: 20 (LW: 20)
There it is.
Matt Eberflus was moved to the booth, and proceeded to give up 452 yards—the most the Chargers have racked up all season. And while I know it isn’t all his fault at this point, why not audition a potential replacement over the final weeks of the season?
