The Eagles are back-to-back division champions and more Hard Knocks action is here!

Here are some choice thoughts on the fourth episode of Hard Knocks: In-Season with the NFC East that aired on Tuesday evening on HBO and HBO Max:

1. Before even getting into the Birds taking care of business and clinching an NFC East title compared to the rest of the slackers in the division, viewers better be in the holiday spirit! “The Philly Specials” and the Christmas tunes of Jason Kelce, Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson were highlighted. I’ll be honest. I adore their version of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” and it’s a December staple in my household.

2. Nick Sirianni harped on the Eagles being 41-2 over the last five years when they win the turnover battle in a team meeting that was shown in this episode. I count myself among the many people across the Philadelphia region when the Eagles offense looks overly vanilla, bland and downright conservative, but it appears that ball control has become its underlying philosophy. Play elite defense, run the ball and don’t turn it over. These are not the most advanced tactics the sport has ever seen, but they led to a Super Bowl parade 10 months ago. The Birds are hoping these principles will bring the same result come two months from now.

3. Frankie Luvu still appears insufferable for his approach to “stopping” the Tush Push back in January’s NFC Championship Game matchup between the Eagles and the Commanders. The Eagles’ formerly unstoppable play feels like it’s dying a bit by the week and didn’t work for them the way they needed it to in Week 16, but, hey, Washington still lost by multiple scores…

4. he lack of greater insight into the big fight late in the Eagles-Commanders game following the Birds’ successful two-point conversion attempt is wholly disappointing. I get that the NFL doesn’t want to highlight this type of fighting, but, come on! We’re supposed to be tuning in for drama like this!

5. The program’s attempt to paint this Cowboys season as anything other than an abject failure is laughable.

6. Hats and t-shirts made for great gifts for the Eagles this holiday season!
