Florida third-year sophomore Eugene “Tre” Wilson announced Wednesday he’s entering the NCAA transfer portal, becoming the latest in a procession of more than 15 Gators to announce their departure.
A Gaither High alumnus, Wilson joins quarterback DJ Lagway, fellow receiver Aidan Mizell, defensive tackle Michai Boireau and defensive back Jordan Castell as Gators already announcing they’ll be available when the portal formally opens Jan. 2.
“Wearing orange and blue for the past three years has been an honor,” Wilson said in an Instagram post.
“The experiences and memories in Gainesville have truly been remarkable. To my teammates, thank you for your dedication and showing me real brotherhood. To my family, I am deeply thankful for your unwavering support and guidance through every challenge and decision. After much prayer and consideration, I will be entering the transfer portal.”
Wilson burst onto Gainesville’s consciousness as a freshman in 2023, recording 61 catches and a team-best six touchdown receptions, but his sophomore season was abbreviated by injuries that ultimately required minor knee surgery and a procedure to correct a genetic hip issue.
He had 27 receptions for 239 yards and three touchdowns in eight games this past season before an injury against Georgia required season-ending ankle surgery.
