The injuries continue pile up for the Denver Broncos as the regular season approaches its end.

As the regular season comes to a close, the Denver Broncos continue to be hampered by the injury bug. Just a month after signing center Luke Wattenberg to a four-year contract extension worth $48 million dollars, the Broncos are placing the veteran offensive lineman on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury according to insider Mike Klis.
The former Washington Huskies standout had started the last 28 games for the team and was improving greatly. While he has been a work in progress as a run blocker, the fourth-year veteran has ascended and become one of the NFL’s best pass protectors at the pivot. This is a brutal blow for the team’s offensive line.
The Broncos will now rely on third-year player Alex Forsyth to take his place. A seventh-round draft selection by Denver in 2023, Forsyth has started four games in his career and played 299 offensive snaps in 32 regular season appearances. In limited action, Forsyth has impressed as a run blocker but struggled in pass protection.
Over the past few seasons, Denver has fared well avoiding the injury bug. Unfortunately, the losses are starting to pile up as the postseason nears. Inside linebacker Dre Greenlaw hobbled off the field late in last week’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, it doesn’t appear the Broncos will opt to place him on IR. Safety Brandon Jones was placed on injured reserve ten days ago after a pectoral injury suffered against the Green Bay Packers.
Here is to wishing Wattenberg a speedy recovery and to hoping Forsyth can hold his own.
