Yankees feeling confident regarding Bellinger; Torpedo bats, Schlittler’s legend highlight top Yankees moments from 2025; Yankees miss out on another top reliever.
New York Post | Jon Heyman: ($) Yes, for Christmas, it’s another Cody Bellinger Market update. Heyman reports that the Yankees are feeling “confident” about their chances of re-signing the outfielder, and that they don’t sense that he’ll defect across town like Juan Soto did just one year ago. Heyman also notes that Aaron Judge has strongly supported bringing Bellinger back. Bellinger’s market has simmered for some time, with a number of high-profile teams reportedly in the mix but nothing concrete emerging. Hopefully, we’ll get a resolution soon.
The Ringer: News was obviously pretty slow on Christmas, so here’s a more general piece to enjoy, as The Ringer’s Year in Review included a recap of the top sports moments from 2025. Key Yankees moments include the team’s opening weekend bonanza that set off the Torpedo bat controversy, as well as Cam Schlittler’s season-saving performance against the Red Sox. Absent is Aaron Judge’s three-run homer against the Blue Jays, which suggests that history will render what could have been a career-defining moment for Judge to more of a footnote since the Yankees’ season ended a day later.
MLB Trade Rumors | AJ Eustace: This broke on Christmas Eve, but it’s still notable from a Yankees perspective; the Marlins have signed reliever Pete Fairbanks to a one-year, $13-million deal. The righty had been a strong presence in the Tampa Bay bullpen the last five years, Fairbanks running a 2.89 ERA since 2020 before the Rays decided to decline an $11-million team option for 2026. He was just about the last high-end relief arm left on the market, so if the Yankees want to make a significant to their bullpen, they’ll likely have to do it via trade.
