Twitter Gold: Harry Giles Hooping In China

One of the great what-ifs of Duke Basketball

Injuries can be really devastating for basketball players. Grant Hill’s career was ultimately defined by injuries and then the immense courage he showed in overcoming them. Jabari Parker’s career was knocked sideways by ACL injuries and he’s now in Europe instead of the NBA.

And then there’s Harry Giles.

Like the last two mentioned, Giles was a brilliant talent before injuries changed his trajectory. He was the #1 player in a class that included Jayson Tatum, who is now recovering from an injury himself.

He didn’t play much or very well while at Duke as he was still recovering from a high school injury and was taken with the #20 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

He bounced around a bit but ultimately his injuries limited his once boundless potential: in high school, he was compared to Chris Webber.

He’s still playing, though in China now, and to judge by these clips, he’s playing pretty well.
