A report from Defensa Central has brought fresh attention to the future of Andriy Lunin, revealing that AC Milan are prepared to move for the Real Madrid goalkeeper should their current number one, Mike Maignan, decide to leave the club.

Despite Lunin having signed a long-term contract extension with Real Madrid last year that runs until 2030, Lunin has once again emerged as a serious option for Milan.

This is because the Rossoneri are facing growing uncertainty around Maignan’s future, with negotiations over a new deal failing to reach a breakthrough so far.

Milan have reportedly put a final proposal on the table for Maignan, offering a salary worth €7 million per season.

If the French international chooses not to accept those terms, the club are ready to turn the page and move decisively for a replacement.

In that scenario, Lunin has been identified as the preferred candidate to take over.

Milan ready to move

The report suggests that Milan would be willing to pay between €10 million and €15 million to secure Lunin’s services.

For a goalkeeper entering his prime years, that figure is considered reasonable in the current market, especially given his experience at the highest level with Real Madrid and in European competition.

For now, however, everything remains on hold. Real Madrid are firm in their stance that there will be no further departures this winter, apart from the loan move of Endrick to Lyon.

Any decision regarding Lunin’s future is expected to be delayed until the end of the season.

No shortage of suitors

Meanwhile, interest in Lunin is nothing new. During the previous summer window, several clubs from Turkey attempted to lure him away from the Bernabeu.

The goalkeeper rejected those approaches, choosing to stay and fight for his place after receiving assurances from the club.

Still, with limited playing time and his best years ahead of him, Lunin may begin to reassess his situation.

If his role does not change, a move in the summer of 2026 could become a realistic option, especially if a club like AC Milan are ready to offer him the status of an undisputed starter.
