Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer admitted that he misses his former team-mate Thomas Müller.

"You can tell he's missed. He got along with everyone, he was the link between young and old," Neuer told the At Broski - Die Sport Show podcast in the episode released on Saturday evening.

"He communicated a lot with body language and was able to connect with the players on a certain level because they immediately felt included," he added.

Müller, 36, left Bayern after 25 years in summer as his contract was not renewed. He now plays for the Vancouver Whitecaps in Major League Soccer.

Neuer sat at a table for four in the Bayern team bus with Leon Goretzka, Konrad Laimer, and Müller, whose seat is now empty.

The goalkeeper moved to Bayern from Schalke in 2011 but his career could have been different: after his time at Schalke's under-19 team, Cologne and Arsenal were "very interested" in him.

"But I didn't want to go abroad because I knew it would be difficult as a youth national team goalkeeper," he said.

"It might be that you can't really establish yourself on the island (in England)."
