Marc Guehi is unlikely to leave Crystal Palace in the January transfer window with the defender instead set for a free transfer exit in the summer.
Guehi’s contract at Crystal Palace expires at the end of the current campaign and the England international has informed the club he will not extend.
The 25-year-old saw a £35m deadline day move to Liverpool collapse in the summer, after Palace failed to secure a replacement in time. Liverpool have been linked with renewing that interest in January, but a transfer has been described as unlikely.
The BBC’s Senior Football Correspondent, Sami Mokbel, has said Guehi is expected to see out the season in South London.
Foreign clubs can approach Guehi over a pre-contract agreement in January, while the defender can command a large signing-on fee should he move as a free agent.
“My understanding at the moment is that he probably is expected to stay at Palace until the end of the season when his contract expires,” Mokbel told BBC Match of the Day.
“Look, he’s going to have so many options in the summer. You’ve got clubs in Europe; Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan. All of these clubs have registered varying degrees of interest in Marc Guehi in recent weeks.
“When you come to the end of the season, you’ll have Liverpool back in the mix, Manchester City back in the mix. He is leaving, but I expect that situation to continue into the summer, when he’ll have his absolute pick of clubs.”
