Mamelodi Sundowns defender Fawaaz Basadien has made an honest admission on his transfer to the reigning Betway Premiership champions during the the off-season.
The 29-year-old left-back signed for The Brazilians from Stellenbosch FC in what was a major coup and a statement of intent from Miguel Cardoso's side.
However, the move is yet to pay dividends for both parties as Basadien has been struggling to break into the star-studded Masandawana starting XI.
Speaking on the Sundowns digital magazine, the former Stellies stalwart admitted that commanding a regular place in the Downs team is not a walk in the park, but says he is ready to bide his team for an opportunity to play.
“Of course, adapting to a new setup and earning your place in a team of such quality takes time. However, I understand and respect that I must fight for my place, as we have some exceptional defenders. That motivates me to work harder everyday. I am also fully aware of the responsibility that comes with the badge,” Basadien said.
"I feel confident that my skills and experience can add value to what Sundowns want to achieve on the pitch. I want to bring consistency, energy, and leadership every time I step onto the field and help the team maintain our high standards.
Basaddien will be hoping to add to his seven appearances across all competitions when the Tshwane giants return to action with a Betway Premiership clash against Orbit College on 20 January 2026.
