Manchester City have launched direct talks with Bournemouth over the signing of Antoine Semenyo in January, as per several reports.
The Blues have won the race to sign the 25-year-old forward in the upcoming January transfer window, with Semenyo keen on working with Pep Guardiola and competing for major trophies at the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea all expressed varying levels of interest in the Ghana international in recent weeks, with Liverpool also recently linked in the wake of British record signing Alexander Isak suffering a major leg injury against Tottenham.
Guardiola is understood to have personally driven Manchester City’s interest in Semenyo as the Catalan shores up a frontline that has been overly reliant on Erling Haaland to score this season amid a dearth of goals from out wide.
Semenyo has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most potent attackers in recent seasons at the Vitality Stadium under Andoni Iraola, who is resigned to losing his star forward amid strong interest from the north-west.
Manchester City are believed to have an agreement in place over personal terms with Semenyo’s representatives as they look to quickly wrap up a deal and table formal discussions with Bournemouth for the winger, who has a £65 million release clause in his contract valid till January 10.
As reported by Lyall Thomas writing for Sky Sports News, Semenyo’s representatives are due in Manchester on Monday to progress negotiations with executives at the Etihad Stadium, who have begun direct talks with Bournemouth to complete the signing of Semenyo.
Talks are expected to progress this week with a view to close a deal for the Ghanian, who is keen to join Manchester City at the earliest despite Bournemouth’s wish to have Semenyo available for upcoming Premier League fixtures against Tottenham and Arsenal.
Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News has added that Manchester City officials – led by director of football Hugo Viana – are looking to finalise an agreement with Bournemouth for Semenyo when they meet the winger’s camp on Monday.
Manchester City have pulled off a massive coup as they enter January whilst being on Arsenal’s heels in the Premier League title race, keeping up the pressure on the first-place Gunners at the weekend as summer signing Rayan Cherki’s winning strike made the difference in a hard-fought 2-1 win away at Nottingham Forest.
City are missing January signing Omar Marmoush, who is representing Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, with Jeremy Doku also out injured as they enter 2026 with a serious chance of winning a fifth Premier League title in six seasons.
Viana recruited shrewdly in the summer to arm Guardiola with an arsenal of fresh blood to challenge for major trophies and should Manchester City secure the arrival of Semenyo in January, the Blues will receive a major boost as they progress into the second half of the 2025-26 campaign.
