Former Michigan starting quarterback Davis Warren is planning on entering the transfer portal, per an ESPN report.
Michigan football is losing one of its quarterbacks to the transfer portal – but not one that took any snaps during the 2025 season.
Quarterback Davis Warren plans to enter the transfer portal – Michigan players are eligible to do so on Thursday, Jan. 1 – as first reported by ESPN's Pete Thamel. Warren, a senior, will likely get a medical redshirt and have two years of NCAA eligibility left.
Warren debuted for the Wolverines as a sophomore backup in 2022 – after overcoming leukemia in high school – and was the team's primary starter in 2024, throwing for 1,199 yards and seven touchdowns in nine games. He tore his ACL in Michigan's win over Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Jan. 5, 2025, and missed all of this season.
Warren had a few memorable games helming the Wolverines offense in 2024, including going 9-for-16 with two interceptions in a 13-10 upset of Ohio State that marked Michigan's fourth win in a row over its biggest rival. Ultimately, though, Warren's tenure will be likely be remembered as the disappointing follow-up to the 2023 national championship team and the bridge between program legend J.J. McCarthy and five-star recruit Bryce Underwood, who started every game in 2025 as a true freshman.
