An injury bug that bit Danny Sprinkle’s Huskies prior to the start continues to infest the locker room. Sprinkle reportedly informed Field of 68 that Wesley Yates III is out indefinitely after having surgery on his wrist.
Losing Yates is significant. He is on the floor more than any other Husky as the team’s leader in minutes, and is the second leading scorer, logging 14.9 per outing. He has scored in double-figures in all but three games, one of which was in the loss to the Redhawks when he logged 11 minutes prior to suffering the injury.
He becomes the third Husky who could miss significant time. Center Mady Traore was ruled out for the season before the campaign had even begun, while Jacob Ognacevic has yet to make his season debut but is expected to return mid-January. Both players suffered foot injuries.
Desmond Claude missed the first four games of the season. Both Bryson Tucker and Hannes Steinbach suffered sprained ankles early in the season; Zoom Diallo and Quimari Peterson also missed time. Meanwhile, Lathan Sommerville is actively nursing a knee injury that left him sidelined in the victory over San Diego.
Washington (8-4, 1-1 Big Ten) hosts former Pac-12 foe Utah (8-4) tonight at 8 p.m.
