Missouri football kicker Robert Meyer expected to enter transfer portal

Robert Meyer, who filled in for Missouri football at kicker in 2025 after an injury to the Tigers' starter, is expected to transfer.

The walk-on placekicker who unexpectedly filled in for most of Missouri football’s field goal duties this season is headed to the transfer portal.

Robert Meyer reposted a graphic to his Instagram account on Monday from 314Graphics that said the kicker intends to enter the transfer portal. He is the 10th Mizzou player to announce an intention to transfer this offseason and the first since the Tigers lost in the Gator Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 27, in Jacksonville, Florida.

The college football transfer portal officially opens for entries Jan. 2 and will remain open through Jan. 16.

Meyer, who is from Colfax, California, and originally committed to Mizzou as a preferred walk-on, was the next man up after Blake Craig tore his ACL chasing down a kick return in the Tigers season-opener against Central Arkansas.

Ahead of the 2025 season, most of Mizzou’s depth at the position had left via the transfer portal as the Tigers attempted to meet anticipated roster limits originally proposed in the house settlement case that brought revenue-sharing to college athletics.

That meant that once Craig was ruled out of action after Week 1, Mizzou was extremely short at kicker.

The Tigers had Meyer and summer NAIA transfer Oliver Robbins on the roster. The Tigers made a novel, late, in-season addition in Ryder Goodwin from the JUCO level in September, after the Tigers’ first game.

Meyer won the job to replace Craig, who is expected to return next season.

After being thrust into the starting role, Meyer had an inconsistent year and was replaced by Robbins on field goal duties during the Tigers’ penultimate game of the regular season at Oklahoma.

Meyer went 10-of-14 on field goals, which did include a clutch, late 40-yard conversion against South Carolina to help Mizzou win the Week 4 game. He missed two PATs in 38 attempts.

The freshman did not appear in Mizzou’s games against Arkansas or Virginia.

Missouri football placekicker Robert Meyer (88) kicks an extra point while punter Connor Weselman (45) holds during first half of the Tigers' game against Kansas on Sept. 6, 2025 in Columbia, MO. Mathew Kirby.

Mizzou might add some depth at kicker in the transfer portal, but it is not the biggest need on the roster with Craig expected back in 2026. With the SEC set to increase its scholarship limit from 85 to 105 spots, there is a good chance some of that could be filled with special teams walk-ons/designated student-athletes.

Craig was with the team in Jacksonville for the Gator Bowl, and he appeared to be walking without a limp, an aid or any noticeable limitation on his injured leg.
