The city of Auburn is dealing with another setback at the quarterback position. True freshman five-star quarterback Deuce Knight has informed Auburn’s staff that he plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal. His decision continues a tough stretch for the Tigers, who are now set to lose two quarterbacks to the portal and are left with just one scholarship quarterback on the roster.
Knight becomes the third Auburn quarterback expected to transfer, joining Jackson Arnold and Ashton Daniels. Arnold and Daniels combined for 11 starts during the 2025 season, giving Auburn valuable experience at the position. Losing both quarterbacks, along with Knight, creates a major hole for the Tigers as they look ahead to the 2026 season.
Despite limited playing time, Knight showed flashes of why he was one of the top recruits in the country. He appeared in only two games during his true freshman season but made the most of his opportunity. Knight earned his first career start in a 62–17 win over Mercer, a performance that quickly caught the attention of fans and coaches.

In that game, Knight completed 15 of 20 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns. He also made an impact with his legs, rushing for 162 yards and four touchdowns on just nine carries. His ability to both throw and run the football showed his versatility and playmaking ability at the quarterback position.
That performance created excitement among Auburn fans and raised hopes that Knight could be a key part of the program’s future. Instead, his time with the Tigers now appears to be coming to an early end. Knight’s decision marks the second straight year a promising young Auburn quarterback has chosen to transfer, following Walker White’s move to Baylor after the 2024 season.
For the 2025 season, Knight completed 17 of 25 passes, finishing with a 68 percent completion rate. He threw for 259 yards, averaged 10.4 yards per attempt, recorded two touchdowns, and did not throw an interception. Because he played in fewer than four games, Knight preserved his redshirt and will have four years of eligibility remaining at his next school.
With Knight and Arnold both expected to leave, Auburn’s quarterback situation has quickly become a major concern. Incoming freshman Rhys Brush is currently the Tigers’ only scholarship quarterback on the roster. That reality makes quarterback one of Auburn’s most important needs moving forward.
The NCAA transfer portal officially opens on Jan. 2 and will remain open until Jan. 16. With no spring transfer window available, Auburn will have a limited amount of time to rebuild its quarterback room and add depth at one of the most important positions on the field before the 2026 season begins. With multiple quarterbacks heading for the exit and little time to respond, Auburn now faces one of its most important offseasons in recent years, where rebuilding the quarterback room could define the direction of the program moving forward.
