EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – When asked about a New Year’s resolution for the team, the University of Southern Indiana women’s basketball team responded saying they wanted to improve their communication and trust in each other.

The Screaming Eagles are coming off of their first lopsided lost of the season on the road at the 23rd ranked Tennessee Volunteers. But they said they learned a lot from the game that will not only help them going forward through the Ohio Valley Conference schedule, but also where they want to end up in March in the NCAA Tournament.

“I just want to keep improving,” said head coach Rick Stein. “You know that’s one of the things I told our team from day one it’s amazing you know we played a few preseason scrimmages and every single one we got better. From the start of the season to now how much better are we it’s leaps and bounds.”

Throughout the season, the team has stayed adamant about focusing on their own play no matter if they’re winning or losing. It’s always about playing USI basketball.

“I think just consistency with our offense sometimes we struggle, we go on rollercoasters just having bad possessions leading to bad defense to bad offense. And I think just bringing consistency and making every play matter is what we need to do.”

Southern Indiana will return to action in the new year at SIU Edwardsville at 1 p.m. The game is set to stream on ESPN Plus.
