Derrick Lewis is fighting Waldo Cortes Acosta as part of the upcoming UFC 324 event on Paramount+, scheduled for Sat., Jan. 24, 2025 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Once again, “Black Beast” has opened as the betting underdog, sitting at +240 on Draft Kings against -300 for “Salsa Boy.”
Lewis holds the record for most knockouts in the history of UFC at 16.
“I’ve said it before, but it needs to be investigated why I’m the underdog against these types of guys,” Lewis told UFC.com. “I want to go on a winning streak. Before I started going on this winning streak, I said, ‘I’m not losing no more.’ I put it in my mind already that none of these guys can mess with me.”
Lewis turns 41 in February.
“Wikipedia or LinkedIn told me I’m 40 now — when they told me, I couldn’t believe it, I don’t feel it,” Lewis said. “When I was in my 20s and they told me, ‘Such-And-Such is 40,’ I was like, ‘Damn! They ‘bout to die; they old,’ but I feel completely different about 40 now.”
Cortes Acosta is 34.
Lewis (29-12, 1 NC) has won two straight and three of his last four. As for Cortes Acosta (16-2), he’s captured two in a row and seven of his last eight. “Salsa Boy” is currently ranked three places above Lewis at No. 5 in the official heavyweight rankings, which may account for the latest UFC 324 odds.
