Notes & Thoughts

  • The defense finished the 2025 season with six more total snaps than the offense.
  • The youth movement in the secondary was pretty clear on Saturday. Clemson dropped a lot of passes, but the secondary did not allow the Tigers to get much going through the air. Everyone who played a snap in the secondary has at least another year of eligibility remaining- if they all stay, this could be one of the best units on the team in 2026.
  • The revised five-man look on the offensive line looked pretty solid. Only TJ Shanahan and Anthony Donkoh had more than 100 snaps in the regular season among the five starters for the bowl game. Donkoh and Cooper Cousins have announced they are returning next year, and hopefully the others follow suit.
  • Quinton Martin Jr made his first appearance of the season with Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton out of the game. Clemson had opt outs on defense, but I was impressed with what I saw in his only action of the season.
  • Every defensive tackle who played has at least one more year of eligibility. Like with the secondary, if the defensive tackle room can retain its talent, there should not be a huge dropoff into 2026.
  • I can’t say enough about Dani Dennis-Sutton. In the era of NFL draft prospects opting out of bowl games, he played about 90% of the snaps on Saturday. DDS is a Nittany Lion through and through.
