Ahead of Texas vs. Michigan, Arch Manning spoke with a steadiness rooted in development rather than legacy.
The Citrus Bowl carries a familiar family thread. His uncle, Peyton Manning, once played in the game, a detail that surfaced naturally while Arch spent time with family in New Orleans over the break. The moment, he explained, felt meaningful without feeling heavy.
“I was in New Orleans over the break, and my grandfather told me about those games and my dad. It is cool. It is cool being part of this game, especially that he played in it, and we are excited to play a good Michigan team.”
The emphasis, even there, landed squarely on the opponent. Preparation for Michigan has framed everything about Texas’ bowl week, especially as the roster turns over. With Tre Wisner and DeAndre Moore Jr. no longer with the program, the Longhorns are using bowl practices as a bridge into what comes next.

“It’s definitely important for us to step up, just two guys that have been here awhile and good players left. For these young guys to step up, get more reps and kind of get our timing down with them.”
That same clarity guided Manning’s decision to return for another season in Austin. There was no long deliberation, no sense of uncertainty.
“I felt like I developed a lot this year, especially towards the back half, and I want to keep it going. There is no reason to leave. I feel like I have a lot more football left to play, and I'm excited to still be part of this team.”
For Texas, the Citrus Bowl against the Michigan Wolverines is a measuring stick. For Arch Manning, it’s defined less by who played here before, and more by what he’s still building now.
