Welcome back, kid.
Will Wright has undoubtedly had an eventful start to his Liverpool FC career. In the summer, it had looked like a sure thing that he would move to the Reds, only for Arsenal to outbid Liverpool. However, the player had his heart set on a move to Anfield and held out long enough for Liverpool to return to the table with an improved offer that sealed the deal.
Unfortunately, the 17-year-old striker suffered a knee injury in September during a UEFA Youth League match against Atletico Madrid. The injury sidelined him for three months. According to LFC Academy-focused reporter Lewis Bower, the player has been back in training for the past two weeks and has been spotted training with the first team.
Thankfully, the kid is back and already scoring. With the under-21s not having a scheduled ‘competitive’ match between November 7 and January 9, the club have organised friendlies to maintain the players’ fitness, and including one against Wright’s former team, Salford. At the weekend, the U21s took on Tottenham, and Will Wright was rampant with five goals.
With Liverpool due to take on Barnsley in the FA Cup on 12 January, perhaps we may see Wright get involved in that game.
