£29m Frimpong an option at right-back and right wing
Injuries haven’t helped either - with the 25-year-old suffering two hamstring injuries in the first few months of the campaign.
He has also been utilised on the right side of midfield - and at right wing - which is a more natural position for him based on his record at previous clubs.
Liverpool will soon require a permanent replacement for Mohamed Salah - with it reckoned that the Egyptian King could move on either in January or next summer.
With Conor Bradley another option at right-back Frimpong will have his chance to stake a claim to become Liverpool’s next right winger.
Frimpong stepping up defensive work
The signs have been encouraging since Frimpong returned to full fitness and his roving runs in the opposition half have become a feature of Liverpool’s play.
He added an assist in the weekend win against Wolves - and looked more like his old Leverkusen self. The next step for Frimpong is to become more consistent - both with his defending and his fitness.
And according to Lewis Steele that is exactly what Frimpong is planning having made a crucial breakthrough over the last couple of fixtures.
“Frimpong is working on the defensive side of his game while working on techniques to stay fit and avoid the niggly injuries that have thus far pockmarked his season,” a report reads.
“He is described as a bubbly character who is well-liked in the dressing room.”
Frimpong can therefore become a solution for Liverpool at both right-back and right wing as they move into the future.
He will never be a like-for-like replacement for either Alexander-Arnold or Salah - but Arne Slot will no doubt be expecting his fellow countryman to step up in both positions during the remainder of the season.
