Kim is committed to staying at FC Bayern for the time being…
Max Eberl and Christoph Freund have already said not to expect a busy winter transfer window for Bayern Munich, but that doesn’t mean nothing will take place. There are still a small handful of players that could potentially be on their way out of Munich, whether it be via a loan or a permanent deal, and something, in theory, could wind up happening if the right opportunity were to present itself.
Center-back Kim Min-jae is one player whose future is uncertain at Bayern and the South Korean international’s minutes have been directly impacted by the signing of Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen during the summer transfer window. So far this season, he’s made a total of seventeen appearances across all competitions, the majority of which have been appearances off of the bench. Vincent Kompany’s preferred starting pairing at center-back has been Tah alongside Dayot Upamecano.
Despite Kim having to play third fiddle behind Tah and Upamecano, as per information from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, there is no chance of the South Korean defender making a move during the winter transfer window, even with interest from several clubs. Fenerbahçe is said to have shown interest in him as well as a handful of Italian clubs in Serie A. For the time being, Kim is rejecting any and all approaches for him and he is remaining committed to staying at Bayern until at least the conclusion of the current season. At that point, he will have to sit down with the club and reassess where things are at, but a lot will hinge on what winds up happening with the contract situation of Upamecano.
As things currently stand, Kim’s contract at Bayern runs through June 2028 and he is valuated at 25 million euros, which is significantly less than the 60 million he was worth when Bayern bought him from SSC Napoli back in the summer of 2023. A lot can happen between now and the start of the summer transfer window, but Kompany will want and need all of the depth he can get as the German Rekordmeister continue to push across all three fronts.
