The three-star New Orleans native departs after three seasons in Fort Worth
The transfer portal officially opens on Friday and the Horned Frogs will have a defensive gap to fill with junior edge Jonathan Bax set to seek opportunities outside of Fort Worth, per multiple reports
A three-star prospect in the Class of 2023 out of New Orleans powerhouse program Edna Karr, Bax was ranked as a top-50 Edge in the class. Bax previously entered the transfer portal after the 2023 season, withdrawing two weeks later and remaining with the Horned Frogs for two more seasons. Despite earning big praise and hype during practice and offseason camps, the in-game production did not meet the hype and lofty expectations that TCU fans had for the talented pass rusher. In 35 career games with TCU, Bax recorded 20 total tackles including 2.5 for loss, one sack and two forced fumbles. He played in Tuesday’s Alamo Bowl victory over USC, recording one tackle. Bax also had the sack and forced fumble in the 2025 season opener at North Carolina that Devean Deal recovered and returned for a touchdown
The Horned Frogs remain deep at Edge, including four-star prospects from each of the last four recruiting classes: Zach Chapman (2023), Travis Jackson (2024), Chad Woodfork (2025), and Carter Buck (2026). Junior Paul Oyewale could also return to TCU for another season despite early reports that he intended to transfer. To note: Oyewale did play in the Alamo Bowl, recording seven tackles.
