Liverpool Women Sign Alice Bergstrom To Squad

Bergstrom joins a struggling club having just won the Swedish league’s title.

Happy New Year! The January transfer window is officially open, and Liverpool Women have wasted no time in making deals.

Friday saw the announcement of Swedish international Alice Bergstrom joining the squad for an undisclosed fee, subject to work permits and international clearance. The 22 year old is listed as a defender, and likely to fill the right back position, but is able to play in all positions on the right side of the pitch, having spent most of her time at former club BK Hacken in midfield.

Bergstrom most recently won the Damallsvenskan title with Hacken in November, scoring three goals and providing eight assists in their last season, and received her first call-up to Sweden’s senior squad for the Nations League bronze medal game against France also in November.

“I’m really excited. I’ve been waiting a long time so it’s nice to be here,” Bergstrom told the club website, following the signing.

“I’m really excited to get started and it’s going to be a good year.”

Bergstrom also has European experience, having started both legs as Hacken beat Internazionale 1-0 on aggregate in the last 16 of the Women’s Europa Cup in November, and played in the Champions League qualification rounds with the club previous to Hacken, Djurgardens.

Bergstrom will wear the number 25 shirt for Liverpool and reunites with Swedish teammate Beata Olsson. When describing her style of play and position to the club in her first interview, Bergstrom minced no words.

“A lot of speed and power. I like to do one-v-ones and make a lot of crosses into the box, so probably that. Yeah, I’ve always played like a winger and this year I have played more like a full-back. So, I can play both.”
