Dante Dowdell is set to join his fourth college program.
The Kentucky Wildcats are losing another key football player to the transfer portal, this one being Dante Dowdell.
Friday evening, news broke that Dowdell was entering the portal. The 6-2, 227-pound running back will have one year of eligibility remaining.
Ironically, Dowdell began his college career in Oregon as a class of 2023 recruit, the same year Will Stein arrived in Eugene. Dowdell played sparingly that year before transferring to Nebraska, where he’d spend the 2024 season before making his way to Lexington last offseason.
This past season, Dowdell rushed for 560 yards and three touchdowns on 112 carries (5.0 avg) while catching seven passes for 30 yards. He was primarily the No. 2 running back behind Seth McGowan, who is now out of eligibility.
While Dowdell was seemingly in line to be the starter next season, it appears Will Stein is still working to add at least one more impact player in the backfield. The Wildcats are hosting Texas Longhorns transfer CJ Baxter and hope to secure his commitment this weekend.
Best of luck to Dowdell at his next stop!
