Bayern Munich News: FC Bayern to make blockbuster shock move for FC Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong?; Bayern to lose on Polish phenom; and MORE!

Is FC Bayern going to take a run at Frenkie de Jong?

Is Bayern eyeing De Jong again? (Sempre Barca)

Bayern Munich has long been a fan of FC Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and per one report, the Bavarians might take one more run at the Dutchman:

In fact, the Dutchman’s performances are also naturally attracting the attention of other big clubs from around Europe. This is apparent from a report from Fichajes, which claims that Bayern Munich have identified De Jong as a priority target as they plan a significant midfield overhaul under Vincent Kompany.

The German champions are preparing a €50 million offer as they look to reshape their engine room following the expected departure of Leon Goretzka. Kompany sees the Dutchman as the ideal profile to bring control, authority, and clean progression from deep, potentially forming a high-level partnership with Joshua Kimmich at the base of midfield.

At 28, De Jong is viewed in Munich as a player entering his prime, capable of leading transitions in a highly attacking setup while also allowing for elite rotation with Aleksandar Pavlovic across a demanding season.

Bayern are keen to act decisively and close the operation early, aware that interest from other top clubs could drive the price up later in the summer after the FIFA World Cup.

From Barcelona’s point of view, however, this story carries very little weight at present. Despite ongoing financial difficulties and the clear need to raise funds to reinforce three priority positions, namely centre back, the full back areas, and a centre forward, the Catalan club is not expected to entertain any move to part ways with Frenkie de Jong.

Uh…this is almost assuredly not going to happen, especially because De Jong just signed a contract extension back in October. Even with Leon Goretzka leaving, Bayern Munich seems to be settled into Joshua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlović, and Tom Bischof as three of the midfield spots. To bring in De Jong would be a very odd move in the summer of 2026.

Bayern losing transfer battle to Porto (Tz)

Bayern Munich has been linked to 17-year-old Polish winger Oskar Pietuszewski, but it looks like he is headed to FC Porto:

FC Bayern Munich is likely to suffer a painful defeat in the transfer market. Oskar Pietuszewski, the 17-year-old Polish prodigy, will apparently not be moving to Munich. Instead, according to medzyki.pl, the winger from Jagiellonia Bialystok is close to a transfer to FC Porto. Negotiations between the Portuguese club and the Polish first-division team are already at an advanced stage.

Jagiellonia Bialystok are demanding ten million euros for their youngster – a sum that would make Pietuszewski the record sale for his hometown club. Polish media report that talks with Porto are expected to be finalized in the coming days. The deal would include bonus payments and could be completed as early as January.

Kane, Olise, Díaz make another list (WhoScored.com)

Bayern Munich stars Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Luis Díaz are among WhoScored.com’s highest rated players in 2025:

BVB won’t make panic buy for midfield (Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger)

With Pascal Groß leaving Borussia Dortmund for Bright & Hove Albion, some expected BVB to make a move for the midfield.

Eh, maybe not:

🚨⚫️🟡 #BVB will not react to Pascal Groß’s departure. No player is expected to come in during the winter transfer window for this position.

In response to a Sky inquiry, Niko Kovac says: “We are well set up with Jobe, Felix, Sabi, and also Salih, and we won’t be doing anything more in this position!” @SkySportDE

Cancelo headed back to Barca? (Fabrizio Romano)

Former Bayern Munich outside-back João Cancelo could be on his way back to FC Barcelona:

🚨🇵🇹 João Cancelo will be deciding his future soon as talks are taking place with agent Jorge Mendes.

Inter can offer Acerbi or De Vrij to Al Hilal, as revealed.

Cancelo, keen on Barcelona return but waiting to understand if Barça want to proceed.

Kroos lauds Pedri (@FootballTweet)

Toni Kroos clearly has an affinity for FC Barcelona midfielder Pedri:

🗣️ Toni Kroos: “Pedri is currently the best there is in that position in my eyes.

“Pedri, in general, is a player who you’ll miss when he is not playing, no matter against whom.

He not only scores goals, he doesn’t only assist goals. He gives you solutions.

“He is the best. And if you’re missing a player like that, you will notice it.”

“He’s one of very few midfielders in his own position who has the gift of being able to outplay someone with a dribble in tight spaces, he’s the best because Pedri helps you in all phases of the game.”
